A pastor is recovering after a tragic accident that claimed the life of his passenger on their way home from a Bible study in Ohio. PASTOR ANDREW EDWARDS of Northwest Baptist Church in Toledo was driving RICHARD MILLER, 35, home on Thursday when a tree and power lines unexpectedly fell on their vehicle at a stoplight, according to Toledo Fire and Rescue officials.
The incident, described as a “freak accident,” resulted in the death of MILLER, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. EDWARDS was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition but is now stable, responsive, and showing movement in all extremities, the church confirmed in a Facebook post.
EDWARDS sustained fractures to his clavicle, sternum, and a vertebra in his back. Medical teams are closely monitoring a small brain bleed, though the neurologist has confirmed it is of no immediate concern. Two other vehicles nearby were damaged in the incident, but no additional injuries were reported.
In an Easter Sunday update, Northwest Baptist Church shared that EDWARDS had been transferred from the ICU to the trauma unit. The pastor has expressed his eagerness to return to his pastoral duties, stating, “I have much work to do.” The church assured him that all responsibilities are being managed in his absence.
The family of EDWARDS expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support during this challenging time. “Your kindness and care mean so much to our family,” they said.
The church continues to ask for prayers for EDWARDS‘ full recovery and for the family of MILLER as they grieve their loss.
