BRONX RESIDENT INJURED IN DARING CARJACKING ATTEMPT; NYPD REPORTS HISTORIC CRIME REDUCTION

In a shocking incident captured on surveillance footage, a Bronx resident was severely injured after attempting to thwart a carjacking on April 24. The victim, who had left his vehicle double-parked and running while picking up takeout from a Chinese restaurant, was dragged along the street as the thief sped away. The suspect, who emerged from the back of an SUV, quickly commandeered the car, leaving the victim with significant injuries to his head and leg. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned on the north-bound Hutchinson River Parkway.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition, while the NYPD continues to investigate the incident. This alarming event comes amid a broader trend of declining crime in New York City, as reported by Police Commissioner JESSICA S. TISCH. In a statement, TISCH highlighted a historic reduction in overall crime during the first quarter of 2024, with shooting incidents reaching their lowest levels in decades.

Mayor ERIC ADAMS also emphasized the city’s progress in public safety, attributing the decline to the NYPD’s precision policing strategies. “Public safety is the foundation of prosperity,” ADAMS stated, noting that New York City remains the safest large city in the nation.
