HOUSTON, TEXAS – While many American students are grappling with academic challenges, one private school in Texas is redefining education with an innovative approach. Alpha School, founded by MacKenzie Price, a Stanford-educated psychologist, is achieving remarkable results by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and adaptive learning tools. Students at Alpha spend just two hours daily in class, yet consistently rank in the top 1-2% nationally.
MacKenzie Price, co-founder of Alpha, emphasized the school’s unique model in a recent interview on Fox & Friends. “We use an AI tutor and adaptive apps to provide a completely personalized learning experience,” she said. “Our students are learning faster and better. In fact, our classes are in the top 2% in the country.”
Following the brief morning academic sessions, students dedicate the remainder of their day to developing real-world skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and financial literacy. This approach has resonated with parents and students alike, including Elle Kristine, a junior who has been attending Alpha since second grade.
“My friends at traditional schools are spending all their time on schoolwork, feeling stressed and miserable,” Kristine shared. “At Alpha, we complete our academics in three hours and spend the rest of the day pursuing passion projects. I’m currently creating a safe AI dating coach for teenagers, which was recently featured in *The Wall Street Journal*. It’s incredible what we can achieve here.”
Founded in 2016, Alpha School now operates campuses in Austin, Brownsville, and Miami, serving students from Pre-K through high school. The Austin location includes both a K–8 academy and a dedicated high school campus, while the Brownsville and Miami campuses cater to students up to the 10th grade. With enrollment intentionally capped at around 150 students per campus, Alpha ensures a highly personalized learning environment.
Instead of traditional teachers, Alpha employs guides who focus on coaching and emotional support, while AI handles academic instruction. “Our teachers spend all their time working with students,” Price explained. “That human connection can never be replaced by AI, but the technology makes it possible to personalize learning for everyone.”
Buoyed by growing demand, Alpha is expanding its innovative model nationwide. Plans are underway to open seven new campuses by Fall 2025, including locations in Houston, Fort Worth, Orlando, Tampa, Palm Beach, Phoenix, Santa Barbara, and New York City. Applications are already open, with tuition averaging $40,000 to $50,000 annually, though the Brownsville campus is subsidized to enhance accessibility.
“This model is infinitely scalable and accessible,” Price stated. “It’s designed to help students who are struggling and those who are bored in traditional classrooms.”
Alpha’s success aligns with broader shifts in education policy. In January, the Trump administration championed school choice, with President Donald Trump signing an executive order to reallocate federal education funds toward school-choice programs, including charter schools and private vouchers. Education Secretary Linda McMahon hailed the move as “history-making,” emphasizing the administration’s commitment to empowering families and local communities.
“Families deserve control over how their children learn,” McMahon said. “Whether it’s AI-powered schools, faith-based options, or traditional public classrooms, education belongs in the hands of those who know their children best.”
