New York Attorney General LETITIA JAMES, known for her high-profile legal battles against former President DONALD TRUMP, is now under scrutiny for alleged mortgage fraud. The accusations are spearheaded by SAM ANTAR, a former fraudster turned whistleblower, who claims to have uncovered evidence of financial misrepresentation in James’ real estate dealings.
SAM ANTAR, who once managed the books for his cousin CRAZY EDDIE ANTAR during the infamous Crazy Eddie electronics scandal, has reinvented himself as a fraud investigator. Antar, who pleaded guilty to multiple felonies in the 1980s, now assists government agencies and law firms in uncovering white-collar crimes. He recently published findings on his website, White Collar Fraud, alleging that James misrepresented her financial status to secure favorable mortgage terms.
“I don’t know how the wheels of justice will turn, and to be frank, I don’t care as long as I’m right,” Antar told Fox News Digital. “If they fail to convict her, it’s their humiliation and their embarrassment.”
Antar’s investigation, conducted independently, reportedly led the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) to issue a criminal referral to the Justice Department. The FHFA alleges that James falsified records to meet lending requirements, including claiming a Virginia property as her primary residence while holding public office in New York. Primary residence mortgages typically offer lower interest rates, which Antar says James exploited.
“She gave her relative power of attorney and declared, in a notarized document, that she intended to make the property her primary residence,” Antar explained. “If that’s true, she’d be disqualified from holding office in New York.”
James, 66, denies the allegations, calling them part of a “revenge tour” by Trump following her successful $454 million civil fraud lawsuit against him. Her attorneys argue that the FHFA cherry-picked documents and ignored evidence refuting the claims.
In a letter to the Justice Department, James’ lawyer, ABBE LOWELL, stated, “The exhibits Director Pulte included with his letter are notable for the fact that he omitted numerous other records which refute the allegations of impropriety.”
Antar’s investigation also uncovered discrepancies in James’ Brooklyn property, which was listed as a five-unit dwelling in its certificate of occupancy but consistently represented as a four-unit property in mortgage documents. This allowed James to qualify for a conforming loan and mortgage assistance programs.
Additionally, James is accused of listing her father as her husband on mortgage applications for a Queens property in 1983 and 2000. While her attorneys claim this was a clerical error, the FHFA argues it raises serious concerns about the validity of her representations.
Antar remains steadfast in his findings. “I documented everything that I did, and I stand by everything I did,” he said. “I did this on my own time, my own dime.”
The Justice Department has yet to comment on the referral. Meanwhile, James continues to serve as New York’s Attorney General, maintaining her innocence in the face of mounting allegations.
