HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTY SHEILA JONES SHOT IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON; SUSPECT ALSO INJURED IN ALTERCATION

A female deputy from Harris County, Texas, was shot on Monday near the Harris County Family Law Center in downtown Houston, authorities confirmed. The suspect was also wounded during the incident, according to officials.

Harris County Sheriff ED GONZALEZ stated that reports of a shooting at the Criminal Justice Complex came in around 12:30 p.m. The injured deputy, identified as SHEILA JONES, was airlifted to the Memorial Hermann Medical Center for treatment.

SHEILA JONES, a Harris County Precinct 1 Constable Deputy, was on duty providing security at the Family Law Center when a violent altercation erupted. Officials revealed that deputies pursued the suspect after observing he was armed, leading to the suspect allegedly opening fire. In response, other deputies shot the suspect, who was subsequently hospitalized. The exact number of shots fired remains unclear.

Both JONES and the suspect are expected to recover from their injuries. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been determined.

SHEILA JONES, an Army veteran with 30 years of law enforcement experience, has served the last two years with the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office. Her son also serves with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, authorities noted. She typically works at the county attorney’s office.

The Houston Police Department is spearheading the investigation into the incident.
