Pilot Killed, Homes Damaged in Small Plane Crash in Simi Valley, California

A tragic incident unfolded in Simi Valley, California, on Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed into two homes, resulting in the death of the pilot and significant property damage. The Ventura County Fire Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the crash occurred just after 2 p.m. local time on the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch area.

The aircraft, identified as a Vans RV-10, departed from William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and was en route to Camarillo Airport when the accident happened. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the plane, tragically lost their life at the scene. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the individual.

Residents were inside both homes at the time of the crash but were safely evacuated without any reported injuries. The two-story, single-family homes sustained structural damage and were engulfed in flames. By 4:30 p.m. local time, firefighters had successfully extinguished the blaze and were conducting overhaul and salvage operations.

Approximately 40 firefighters were on the scene, working in unified command with the Simi Valley Police Department. The preliminary cause of the crash remains under investigation, with a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator arriving at the scene by 6:30 p.m. local time. The wreckage will be documented and moved to a secure facility for further evaluation as part of the ongoing investigation by the NTSB and FAA.
