Thousands Rally Nationwide in National Day of Action Against Trump Policies

As families celebrated Easter egg hunts this past Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets across all 50 states and U.S. territories in what organizers dubbed the “National Day of Action.” From Anchorage to Atlanta, demonstrators targeted policies under former President DONALD TRUMP, marking one of the largest single-day protest efforts since his return to office in January, according to *The Washington Post*.

The protests, spearheaded by the 50501 movement—symbolizing 50 states and one capital—were meticulously organized, with tools like Google Maps for local events and printable posters provided to participants. More than 700 events were held nationwide, reflecting widespread opposition to what organizers describe as sweeping civil rights rollbacks, growing executive power, and mass deportations.

In Washington, D.C., protesters gathered steps from the White House, waving handmade signs with slogans like “Hands Off Our Rights” and “Stop the Power Grab.” Some distributed pocket-size copies of the Constitution, emphasizing the fight for fundamental rights. BOB FASICK, a retired government worker, expressed concerns about cuts to Social Security and health programs, stating, “I cannot sit still. We are leaving a world to our children that I don’t want to live in.”

The timing of the protests was symbolic, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, which marked the dawn of the American Revolution. In Massachusetts, 80-year-old THOMAS BASSFORD participated in a reenactment with his grandsons, noting, “This is a very perilous time in America for liberty. I wanted the boys to learn about the origins of this country and that sometimes we have to fight for freedom.”

Criticism extended beyond the Trump administration, with protesters targeting ELON MUSK in a “Tesla Takedown” outside Tesla showrooms. Demonstrators voiced opposition to Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and his role as a Trump advisor.

The movement, which has decentralized leadership, emphasizes long-term goals. “We’re not here for just one march,” an organizer told *The Washington Post*. “This is about building community infrastructure to withstand what’s happening in Washington.”

As of Saturday evening, the White House had not issued a formal response to the protests.
