
A tragic incident unfolded in the heart of Myrtle Beach’s bustling entertainment district on Saturday night, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. According to law enforcement officials, a gunman opened fire just before midnight, prompting immediate response from local authorities.
JERRIUS DAVIS, an 18-year-old from Bennettsville, was identified as the individual who succumbed to his injuries following the shooting. Eleven others sustained injuries but are currently receiving medical treatment.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department reported that the incident began when officers observed a disturbance involving multiple individuals. During the altercation, a person opened fire, prompting one of the officers to discharge their weapon in response to the immediate threat. The officer involved in the shooting was unharmed.
Myrtle Beach Mayor BRENDA BETHUNE praised the swift actions of the responding officer, stating, “Our officer saw what happened, and when he saw that an altercation was taking place and a gun was being shot, the officer responded very quickly and, in my opinion, saved lives. Last night could have been so much worse.”
In a reassuring statement, Mayor Bethune emphasized that the incident was isolated and affirmed the district’s safety for visitors. Rep. NANCY MACE, R-S.C., also expressed her condolences, stating, “Devastated by the tragic shooting in Myrtle Beach. Our hearts are broken for the victims and their families.”
